The idea of owning and driving a sports car every day is appealing—I'll admit that—but it's something that's rather difficult to pull off here in Canada. Let's just say winter brings its share of challenges for this kind of machine. That said, there are a few exceptions to the rule, and the Subaru WRX 2026 is one of them. Thanks to its all-wheel drive system and slightly raised suspension, the small Japanese sports car is just as comfortable on a flawless track in the middle of summer as it is on a country road buried under snow in the dead of January—and that's what makes it such an interesting car.
The Subaru WRX 2026 is a versatile and enjoyable car to drive, a combination that's rarer than you might think. It's well known for its legendary all-wheel drive system, but I can promise you it has much more to offer.
Lineup and Pricing
With a starting price of $41,257, the Subaru WRX 2026 remains a performance car that's accessible to most buyers. In fact, at that price point, it's far from being an entry-level sports car. It comes well equipped with features such as power seats, 18-inch wheels, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen. Next up is the Sport-Tech trim, which adds enhanced technology for $46,261. The GT model follows at $49,661. The tS edition starts at $51,061 and offers a more exclusive finish. Finally, the range-topping Kaminari edition sits at the top of the lineup with a starting price of $52,661.
Category and Competition
While compact sedans are not as popular as they once were, the same cannot be said for compact sport sedans, which continue to attract new enthusiasts every year. The Subaru WRX remains a benchmark in the segment thanks to its heritage and capabilities. It's also a car that enjoys a strong and passionate following.

Design and Technology
While the design of the current WRX generation sparked a lot of discussion when it first arrived on the market, I'm among those who appreciate it. I like its slightly more rugged look, which gives the car an even tougher appearance. In fact, the absence of painted lower body panels is a great thing, especially over the long term. As always, the Japanese automaker's sport sedan shows plenty of character, and it benefits from a beautiful color palette this year.
Inside, the Subaru WRX 2026 makes it clear that you're behind the wheel of a performance car. The steering wheel offers an excellent grip, and the gear lever is perfectly positioned. The controls are easy to reach, and the car is surprisingly comfortable for a performance-oriented model. Higher-end trims even deliver a truly impressive interior finish.
Performance
The Subaru WRX 2026 is powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. It produces 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. You can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. In all cases, power is sent to all four wheels.
Weak Points
It clearly lacks the massive STI-style rear wing of the past. No hatchback version. Fuel consumption is on the higher side.
Strengths
It's an incredibly fun car to drive. Its all-wheel drive system is highly effective. It holds its value better than most of its rivals.
Signature Element
The Subaru WRX may not be the most powerful or the fastest car in its segment, but it delivers a truly unique driving experience.
Final Word
The perfect car doesn't exist. Of course, it all depends on your needs and desires, but one thing is certain: the Subaru WRX 2026 comes very close, at least for me. It's a great car for both family duties and driving enjoyment, all year round.
